How many of you experience fatigue? It’s pretty normal, right? We are all so busy juggling so many tasks that it is no wonder we are exhausted. What if by changing one or two things in our diet it could have a big impact on our fatigue?
At The Whole Tulip, we believe in identifying the foods that are not serving you. Whether it’s through diet changes, reduction in stress, increase or decrease in exercise, finding more ways to laugh or simply saying no when you’ve already overcommitted.
Rather then rant about all the science, we want to share with you Juanita’s story.
I (Adri) spoke to her prior to our winter cleanse and she was depleted, exhausted and pretty convinced that her fatigue was just something she had to live with. In my gut, I felt that there could be foods that could be contributing to her fatigue but didn’t want to make any empty promises. I simply asked her to try our cleanse which is based on an elimination diet.
“I have always struggled with fatigue, dosing off 20 minutes into a movie, feeling tired all the time and never quite refreshed when I woke up in the morning. A couple of years ago I visited my Primary Care Doctor who essentially told me that my fatigue is normal. I mean, I am a full time working mom of 2 small children and am married to a traveling salesman. However, I knew this was not normal, and I should be able to do something about it. About 18 months prior to hearing about The Whole Tulip, I visited a Holistic Doctor who listened to me and did help my fatigue. But I was taking supplements, which is not something that I felt comfortable with for the long term. When I heard about The Whole Tulip and the idea that what I am putting into my body could be causing inflammation, I had to find out more. I understand that what I put in my body fuels me, but what I didn’t think about before is that we are all fueled by different things and in turn we are all affected by different foods. One night just before the deadline for the cleanse, I came home did the normal nighttime routine and a mere 15 minutes after putting my kids to bed and sitting down to check my emails I fell asleep WHILE TYPING AN EMAIL! Needless to say, I had to retype that email.

Because I chose to do the cleanse to find out what, if any, foods were stripping my energy levels I was anxious to get started. I decided I was not going to live without my morning cup of joe, but I did limit myself to only one cup and I stopped using dairy creamer. My snacks of candy, chocolate, and sweets in the middle of the afternoon stopped and I started choosing healthier options. I experienced tasty new snacks and delicious smoothies. I made sure to keep my food journal and also track how I was feeling. It was amazing! Only a couple of days in and I was already feeling better and had more spring in my step. The headaches that I was experiencing EVERY day as I drove home about to embrace my kids, suddenly disappeared. My mother, who watches our kids every afternoon noticed that I looked better and I didn’t seem so drained. And this was only the first couple of days!
So, how did it turn out for me? I discovered that my sweet tooth and dairy were my culprit. I noticed a change when I eliminated them from my diet and it was clear to me when I reintroduced them. I was the girl whose diet consisted of greek yogurt every morning, a chocolate or candy snack every afternoon at work, a slice of cheese just before dinner, and a sweet treat every night after the kids went to bed. No wonder I was falling asleep sitting on the couch every night and couldn’t wait to go to bed. NO MORE! I was not going to continue to wreak havoc on my body and live a life that wasn’t full of energy. I now use only Almond Milk, don’t eat cheese (except on an occasional slice of pizza), and have greatly reduced my sweet treats. Thanks to The Whole Tulip, I now use Chia Seeds on anything I can, still make the Cranberry Bliss Smoothie at least once a week, LOVE snacking on the Chocolate Sunbutter Protein Balls, and know how to spot the REAL chocolate that is full of antioxidants and is really good for you. AND, I feel so much more alive!
