Similar to the food piece of the health puzzle, greening your beauty routine does not happen over night. We have slowly been integrating the clean beauty products into our lives over the past several years, but recently it has become a lot easier and more affordable to do so with more online retailers selling all clean products like The Detox Market.
Like food, just because it says “organic” or “natural” does not mean that it is safe or good for you to put on your largest organ, your skin.

How To Avoid Everyday Toxins In your Skin Care
We don’t want to use a scare tactic to get you thinking about this. Again, with the affordability and accessibility to clean products making slow changes can really make a difference and hey – your skin might start looking a lot brighter without all those chemicals.
Now, on to our top 5 Green Beauty Products to swap out in your house.
We have told you about this one before, but Beauty Counter’s Sunscreen and Sunscreen stick still make the top of our list. We have tried so many zinc based sunscreens and this still, tops them all. We love Beauty Counter’s because it rubs in, smells good, and works on the whole family so no more bag of sunscreen at the beach, you just need these 2. This is a must for spring break coming up. PLUS, just for our Whole Tulip readers, you will get a FREE lip balm with every $50 purchase.
I love tinted moisturizers because they give you the protection and light coverage you need when running out the door in morning. Beauty Counter’s tinted moisturizer and the powder below will give you that even glowy look with little effort. It’s light enough that it is perfect when working out and you don’t feel that sweat trapped under your skin.
W3LL Bio Brightener Powder. If you love Laura Mercier’s setting powder, you will love W3LL People bio brightening powder. This is a universal color and helps create that even skin tone we are all looking for. Perfect year-round and especially over Beatutycounter’s Tinted Moisturizer.
Deodorant – Don’t be scared!
There are 2 types of natural deodorant – baking soda based and magnesium based. If you are new to the natural deodorant movement or have tried some in the past and decided it is not for you, try again with one of these two. Deodorants that do not contain aluminum is one of the most important things you can do when greening your beauty routine. The aluminum in antiperspirants has been linked to breast cancer and Alzheimer’s disease.
You have to give your body some time to adjust. The skin might get a little irritated at first, but it will get used to it. Stick with it. Your body is adjusting since you have been applying a product, aluminum, that has not allowed your body to naturally rid itself of toxins since puberty. Our bodies are supposed to release toxins through the sweat and if we don’t, they build up and can lead to health issues down the road. You may have to reapply a few times when you get started, and it will be worth it!
Honestly, I didn’t even think about greening my mascara until my husband’s aunt asked me if I knew about mascara and bat droppings. I still don’t know if that’s true, but I turned to my Green Beauty expert, Jessica Morse of BareBeauty.com, and sure enough here is what she has to say about conventional mascara and what it can contain, “formaldehyde releasers, mercury, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, coal tar, petroleum distillates, vinyl, parabens, phthalates, and triethanolamine.” No thanks. I’m pretty proud of my 20/20 vision and I’d like to take care of these eyes.
